Since SAP Sapphire 2026, SAP Joule for Developers is an agentic stack. ABAP AI capabilities in ADT (Eclipse, and VS Code since Q2 2026) cover chat, explain, predictive completion, ABAP Unit and CDS test generation, RAP/OData generators and custom-code migration help; the ADT MCP server exposes objects, activation, transports, unit tests and ATC to any MCP-capable agent — only AI generation such as AI quick fixes needs the Joule licence. ABAP AI is billed in AI Units, needs an on-stack licence on BTP ABAP and S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition (SAP Note 3571857) and extends to Private Edition from release 2021. For CAP, Joule in SAP Build Code generates models, Fiori apps and logic. The rules: contract first, ABAP Cloud only, tests and ATC as gates, transport diff as the human checkpoint.

SAP's developer AI story changed shape in 2026. Until last year it was mostly a coding assistant: explain this method, complete this line, draft this unit test. Since SAP Sapphire 2026 it is an agentic stack — ABAP AI capabilities exposed as tools that an AI agent can chain, an ABAP MCP server, ABAP development in Visual Studio Code, a first custom-code migration agent, and a usage-based commercial model in AI Units. This module teaches you what exists as of 23 September 2026, how to switch it on, how to use it on ABAP Cloud and CAP projects without degrading quality, and where the limits are.

  • Access to a development system where Joule for Developers is enabled (for the AI parts of the exercises)

  • Write an agent brief with goal, constraints, definition of done, tool sequence and stop conditions.
