Best freelance platforms for SAP consultants — a market-by-market map, not a ranking
As of 2026-10-10
There is no single best platform for an SAP consultant: demand for Datasphere, Business Data Cloud and SAC work concentrates on two or three platforms in each market, and they differ by country. In DACH it runs through the margin brokers and two subscription exchanges; in France through Free-Work and Malt; in the UK through Jobserve, LinkedIn and two SAP-only recruiters. Our survey of 23 September 2026 mapped 39 platforms; the useful question is which two or three to maintain for the markets you sell into, and what each costs you.
Five models, five different deals
Calling all of them platforms hides the fact that they sell different things. The survey separates five models. A marketplace with commission is one where you contract with the client and the platform takes a percentage. A broker-platform with margin contracts with you and resells to the client, and the margin is rarely published. A job board is paid by the advertiser, and you contract off-platform. An expert network is curated and priced per project or per call. A professional network, LinkedIn or XING, gives you discovery but never a contract.
The model decides what you pay and who owns the relationship. A published price is written in our survey only when it appeared on a public page on the access date; not published means that no public page carries it, not that the platform is free.
Where SAP Analytics demand actually sits, by market
We rate SAP Analytics relevance high, medium or low per platform. It is an editorial judgement built from the listings visible without an account, not a published measure: no platform exposes a Datasphere, BDC or SAC count without a session, and only freelance.de showed an SAP count in the open, 288 SAP-tagged projects on 23 September 2026.
Situation — freelancing into Germany, Austria or Switzerland : Rated high : freelancermap, freelance.de, GULP, SOLCOM, Hays, Westhouse · Pattern : brokers carry most SAP days, two subscription exchanges expose volume.
Situation — freelancing into France : Rated high : Malt, Free-Work · Rated medium : LeHibou, FreelanceRepublik, Freelance-Informatique, freelance.com · Pattern : generalist broker-platforms carry SAP as one category.
Situation — freelancing into the UK : Rated high : Jobserve, LinkedIn, Eursap, IgniteSAP · Pattern : two SAP-only recruiters plus the historic contracting board.
Situation — freelancing into the Netherlands, Belgium or the Nordics : Rated medium : Striive, ProUnity, Ework, emagine · Pattern : assignments often cannot be browsed without a session.
What platforms charge, where it is published
The published prices are few. Malt charges the freelancer 5 % excluding VAT as standard, 10 % then 5 % after six months on some projects in France, Spain and Belgium, and 2 % when the freelancer brings the client. freelancermap sells a subscription instead of taking commission: a free basic tier and a premium tier at €13.99 a month, with 0 % commission. freelance.de runs four freelancer tiers from €0 to roughly €33 a month. GULP publishes a schedule of €7 per freelancer hour billed. Striive in the Netherlands publishes €0, €3.00 and €4.50 per hour for its three tiers. Upwork takes 0 to 15 % from the freelancer, Catalant 20 to 30 % of project fees, Outvise 25 % included in the client rate.
These figures bracket the 5 to 10 % platform margin used in our rate model. The larger margins sit where nothing is published: the DACH and Benelux brokers that carry most SAP days negotiate mission by mission, and the 12 to 22 % we assume for a specialist agency is an editorial estimate, because no agency discloses it.
The platforms that sit outside SAP Analytics demand
Curated expert networks and global marketplaces sell something else. Crème de la Crème, Catalant, GLG, Toptal and Outvise sell one-off advisory work or digital talent, and Upwork is a global marketplace; the survey rates their SAP Analytics relevance low. A freelancer listing on all of them gains upkeep, not mandates.
It is easy to misread the sheer size claims. Malt claims 700,000 users, LeHibou 140,000 IT experts, Eursap a network of 175,000 consultants: these are marketing figures, self-reported and unaudited, and say nothing about SAP volume. The measured count that matters, where one exists, is a number of live SAP assignments, and in the open only one platform gave it.
Choosing: criteria that survive the marketing
Five criteria carry the decision. Coverage: does the platform show SAP or analytics assignments without an account, in the country you target? Commission model: who pays, and is the schedule on a public page? Client type: end customers who brief directly, or integrators resourcing a bench? Country: tax, contract language and the thresholds behind the day rate. Switching cost: what you lose by leaving after a year.
Our practical rule follows from the map: be present, with a maintained profile, on the two or three dominant platforms of each market you target, plus LinkedIn, which cuts across all of them. Each further profile costs upkeep without adding mandate flow. Which channel is right also depends on your career stage: a platform is a reasonable first route in the first years after leaving employment, because the fee buys the first three references, while an agency or direct relationship pays better once you have them.
What the channel costs you in euros
On a client paying €1,400 a day for a senior Datasphere architect, our model gives the freelancer €1,260 on a platform in the first six months at 10 % and €1,330 after, €1,190 through an agency at the mid-band 15 %, and the full €1,400 direct. On a 200-day year that is a gap of €28,000 to €42,000 against direct. The cost buys payment speed and invoicing from the platform (Malt pays within 10 days of validation), shortlist speed from the agency, and brand cover from a consultancy. The 200 days is a utilisation assumption, not a measurement.
What we cannot assert
Not public: how many Datasphere, BDC or SAC assignments each platform holds, since none exposes the count without a session; the margin of most brokers; the acceptance rate of any platform for an SAP profile. Relevance ratings are an editorial judgement from listings visible without an account on 23 September 2026. Size claims are marketing figures and have not been audited.
Frequently asked
Which freelance platform is best for SAP consultants?
None is best across markets. In DACH the SAP volume sits with brokers such as GULP, Hays and SOLCOM and the exchanges freelancermap and freelance.de; in France with Free-Work and Malt; in the UK with Jobserve, LinkedIn, Eursap and IgniteSAP.
Is there an SAP freelance marketplace that only lists SAP work?
Only in recruiter form: Eursap and IgniteSAP in the UK are SAP-focused recruiters, not marketplaces. The marketplaces are generalist and carry SAP as one category.
Are platform commissions published?
Some are: Malt, Upwork, Catalant and Outvise state them. The margins of the main DACH and Benelux brokers are not public.
How many platforms should I be on?
Two or three per target market plus LinkedIn. More profiles add upkeep, not demand.
