A freelance SAP AI Foundation consultant works on the AI layer of SAP's platform: the prebuilt AI services, the SAP AI Core runtime with its generative AI hub, and the data that grounds the models. AI Foundation is a teaching map, not a SKU, so the first deliverable is a bill of services: which entitlements your use case needs, how each is metered, and which services on the classic slide can no longer be renewed.

Freelance SAP BTP AI consultant: what the layer contains

SAP draws AI Foundation on BTP as three stacked layers. The top row is prebuilt AI services called through an API. The middle is the lifecycle stack: SAP AI Core runs workloads, the generative AI hub provides governed model access and orchestration on the AI Core extended plan only, and SAP AI Launchpad is the interface. The bottom is data and context: the HANA Cloud vector and knowledge graph engines, SAP Datasphere and the SAP-maintained SAP Knowledge Graph.

Since May 2026 SAP sells the same blocks as the SAP Business AI Platform, regrouped as Build, Contextualize & Reason, and Govern.

Freelance SAP AI services consultant: what is live and what is in run-off

Of the four services on the classic slide, two are live. SAP Document AI, the former Document Information Extraction, is the one SAP is actively extending. SAP Translation Hub is live and also powers the translation module of the orchestration service. Data Attribute Recommendation and Personalized Recommendation were removed from the Eligible Cloud Services on 31 March 2026: they run until the end of the current term and cannot be renewed.

For Data Attribute Recommendation SAP names SAP-RPT-1 in SAP AI Core as the alternative; for Personalized Recommendation it names no successor. A proposal that still lists either service for a new project is the quickest signal that its author worked from old slides. Any SAP AI services contractor should raise this unprompted.

SAP AI Foundation contractor or SAP BTP AI freelancer: how to vet them

Ask questions that cannot be answered from a slide. Which AI Core plan does the generative AI hub require? How would they replace Data Attribute Recommendation in your design, and when would they train their own model instead? What separates SAP Knowledge Graph, which SAP authors for Joule and agents, from the HANA Cloud Knowledge Graph Engine, where your own graphs live?

The current certification is C_AIG_2604, a three-hour system-based assessment taken in SAP AI Launchpad; preparation material titled C_AIG_2412 is superseded. Ask for one delivered use case and its route to production as well.

Where the demand is, and what the day costs

In the Analytics Legends contract corpus of 10 October 2026, 4 of 1,636 live postings carry the SAP AI Core / generative AI hub skill tag: 1 permanent and 3 freelance, all in Germany. The wider SAP Business AI tag appears on 56 postings, 26 of them in Germany and 6 freelance. An SAP AI Foundation freelancer is therefore mostly engaged for bounded work rather than found through public adverts.

No. You order the services inside it: SAP AI Core on the extended plan for the generative AI hub, SAP AI Launchpad, Document AI, Translation Hub and HANA Cloud, each with its own entitlement and metering.

Is an SAP BTP AI contractor the same as a Joule consultant?

Not quite. Joule work sits on the engagement layer: skills, agents, Joule Studio. AI Foundation work sits underneath it: runtime, model access, prebuilt services and grounding. Larger programmes need both.

When is a freelancer cheaper than a hire?
