SAP AI programmes stall on people, not models: the verifiable signals — a hands-on C_AIG_2604 exam, partner positioning certifications, SAP's own enablement push and Malt's freelance data — point to a seven-part skill stack, not to a headcount figure anyone can source.

What it is

SAP AI programmes in 2026 do not stall for lack of models — SAP now ships its own tabular models (SAP-RPT), resells third-party frontier models through the generative AI hub, and has acquired Prior Labs for tabular foundation models. They stall for lack of people who can connect those models to governed business data, to processes and to regulation. This fiche replaces an earlier version that quantified the gap with headcounts and day rates we could not source; those figures have been withdrawn. What follows is limited to signals that can be verified, and to the skill stack that follows from the products themselves.

Why it matters

SAP's own certification for AI developers (C_AIG_2604) is a live-system assessment, so hands-on proof now outweighs slide-level familiarity.
The skill stack is defined by shipped products — generative AI hub, Joule Studio, SAP-RPT/TabPFN, Document AI, BDC grounding — not by job titles.
Regulatory skills stay in demand: the EU AI Act high-risk deadline moved to 2 December 2027 (Annex III) under Regulation (EU) 2026/1744, it did not disappear.
