The most in-demand SAP skills 2026, measured on live job adverts
As of 2026-10-10
Datasphere is the most requested SAP analytics skill in live adverts: 38.8% of the 1,600 live adverts with skills that we held on 28 September 2026, ahead of SAC at 34.5% and BW at 32.2%. Business Data Cloud stands at 15.2% and Joule at 5.1%. These are shares of adverts, not salaries and not a trend: the file carries no per-skill day rate and no 90-day series, for reasons given below.
The ranking, with its date and population
The population is the live adverts in our mission radar on 28 September 2026: 1,651 live rows, of which 1,600 carry at least one skill. Each share below is the number of those 1,600 adverts that name the skill. An advert can name several, so the shares do not add up to 100%.
Datasphere: 621 adverts, 38.8%. SAC: 552, 34.5%. BW, all releases: 515, 32.2%. HANA: 307, 19.2%. S/4HANA: 288, 18.0%. BW/4HANA, named as such: 259, 16.2%. Business Data Cloud: 243, 15.2%. Generative AI: 135, 8.4%. ABAP: 125, 7.8%. Python: 96, 6.0%. Databricks: 87, 5.4%. Joule: 82, 5.1%. Power BI: 65, 4.1%. Snowflake: 50, 3.1%. Agentic AI: 42, 2.6%. SAP AI Core: 28, 1.8%.
The top of the list is the analytics core. Datasphere and SAC are each named by roughly a third of adverts, and BW is still named by almost as many. The AI skills sit in single digits, which fits the picture in our reskilling study: SAP AI is 4.0% to 5.4% of SAP postings by month, but its content is converging on the analytics layer.
How to read these shares
The index counts 339 distinct raw skill values in the adverts. We match spellings to a referential, so "SAC", "sac" and "SAP Analytics Cloud" count once for SAC; 251 raw values remain unmatched and are not in the ranking. A share therefore describes what employers wrote that we could normalise, not everything they wanted.
A second caution: an advert naming BW does not say whether the work is run, migration or new build. The radar's own reading puts Datasphere, SAC and Business Data Cloud in the adopt ring, Joule in trial and greenfield BW/4HANA in hold, which is a judgement layered on top of these counts and shown on the tech radar page.
What this file does not tell you
There is no per-skill day rate. Every live row that carries a rate band has a band we inferred ourselves from seniority, not a rate the advert states, and only 207 of the 1,600 adverts declare a rate of their own. Publishing a rate per skill from that would be inventing it.
There is no 90-day trend either. The live population keeps only adverts posted within the last 45 days, so a 90-day window over it is empty by construction. Anything you read elsewhere that claims a quarter-on-quarter rise for a single SAP skill should say what population it counted.
AI skills: small shares, specific content
Inside the AI group, large-language-model and generative-AI terms reach 8.6% of adverts, Joule 5.1%, agents 2.7%, SAP AI Core 1.8% and the Generative AI Hub 0.1% (two adverts). Our reskilling study looked at the 727 SAP postings that asked for AI between July and September 2026: 67.7% named Joule and 1.2% named machine learning.
On the supply side, of 2,868 consultants in our directory with a normalised skill field on 5 September 2026, 115 (4.0%) list Business Data Cloud and 17 (0.6%) list Joule. Demand is small but the people who can answer it are fewer still.
Is SAP BW dead? The future of SAP BW consultants
No, and the adverts say so: BW is named in 32.2% of live adverts with skills, third behind Datasphere and SAC. What is ending is a release, not the product family. SAP's announcement of 23 April 2020 sets mainstream maintenance for BW 7.5 at 31 December 2027, with a paid extension to 2030, and BW/4HANA at 2040 at least. Your own contract and release decide your date, so check SAP's maintenance schedule for your version before telling a client anything.
For a BW consultant the future is migration and coexistence work: lift-and-shift, selective migration, rebuild in Datasphere, or staying and federating. Our skills study is blunter about one slice: BW dashboard authoring is commoditised, and the study's modelled half-life for a skill like it has fallen from about ten years to four to six for newer skills. That half-life is an editorial model, not a measurement. The consultants who keep their rate are those who add Datasphere or Business Data Cloud to BW.
Decision table: which skill to add next
BW consultant — Evidence : BW in 32.2% of adverts, Datasphere in 38.8% · Next skill : Datasphere, then Business Data Cloud · Why : migration and coexistence are where BW is requested.
SAC consultant — Evidence : SAC in 34.5% · Next skill : Datasphere · Why : Datasphere is named in more adverts than SAC, 38.8% against 34.5%.
Datasphere consultant — Evidence : Datasphere 38.8%, Business Data Cloud 15.2%, Databricks 5.4% · Next skill : Business Data Cloud, then Databricks · Why : the cross-stack combination is rare in our directory.
Consultant choosing a first AI skill — Evidence : Joule 5.1%, generative AI 8.4% · Next skill : Joule delivery on governed data · Why : see the reskilling study for the plan.
Trainer or HR lead budgeting — Evidence : the core four (Datasphere, SAC, BW, Business Data Cloud) · Next skill : treat AI as an add-on to the core, not a replacement · Why : the adverts do.
What we cannot assert
No per-skill day rate and no 90-day trend: every rate band on the live adverts is inferred from seniority, and the live population keeps only adverts posted within 45 days. 251 raw skill values are not matched to our referential and are outside the ranking.
Frequently asked
Which SAP skill is most in demand in 2026?
On our 28 September 2026 population of 1,600 live adverts with skills, Datasphere (38.8%), then SAC (34.5%) and BW (32.2%). Business Data Cloud is at 15.2% and Joule at 5.1%.
Is SAP BW dead?
No. BW is named in 32.2% of live adverts with skills. BW 7.5 mainstream maintenance ends on 31 December 2027 with a paid extension to 2030, per SAP's 2020 announcement, and BW/4HANA runs to at least 2040. Check your own release and contract.
Which SAP skill pays the most?
Our index cannot say. It carries no per-skill day rate, because every band on the adverts is inferred from seniority rather than stated. See our day-rate pages for sourced rates by country.
Are SAP AI skills growing?
Directionally, yes in content, not in volume: SAP AI stayed between 4.0% and 5.4% of SAP postings by month while converging on the analytics layer. We do not publish a 90-day trend per skill because the population does not support one.
