One UK figure sits in our source set: a £456 daily median for SAP BW contract roles, with an interquartile range of £426 to £492 and 10th and 90th percentiles at £419 and £512, published by IT Jobs Watch as of 1 August 2026. Its stated sample is four vacancies quoting a rate out of five matching over six months, and the -31.7% year-on-year change published alongside it is computed on single-digit samples in both years. That is a signal about one job title, not a market. We hold no all-SAP UK band, and we never convert sterling into euros because no exchange rate is recorded with these figures.

What the published UK figure supports, and what it does not

It supports a statement about advertised contract rates for one specific title, SAP BW Consultant, over one six-month window, from one index. Within those limits the shape is informative: the percentiles cluster tightly, £419 at the 10th and £512 at the 90th, which is a narrow spread for a contract market and is consistent with a small sample rather than with a genuinely tight market.

It does not support a UK SAP contractor rate in general, and it does not support a trend. A -31.7% year-on-year move computed on four vacancies against a similarly thin prior year is arithmetic, not a market movement. Repeating it as one is the most common misuse of contractor indices.

IR35 moves a UK day rate more than any market factor

A genuine right of substitution — can you actually send someone else to do the work — argues strongly for outside status, as does bearing real financial risk for your own mistakes and supplying your own equipment. Strong client control over what, how, when and where the work happens argues for inside. Long SAP programme work naturally drifts toward the inside factors, because the consultant sits in the client's team, on the client's VPN, inside the project structure.
