Senior pattern: classify in project charter, name Art. 17 responsible, design Art. 14 human oversight from week 1, ship Art. 11 dossier with the system. The dossier is the deliverable.

The EU AI Act (Regulation 2024/1689) is the binding regulatory frame for every AI system shipped in or to the EU, and it is not a future-tense concern a consultant can safely defer. For SAP analytics consultants, the practical question is not "is AI regulated" — it obviously is — but which of my Joule prompts, embedding pipelines, retrieval-augmented flows, and Smart Predict models fall under the Annex III "high-risk" category, and what does it actually cost, in effort and in delivery discipline, to ship one compliantly. The honest answer, in round terms, sits in the range of 200-800 person-days per high-risk system to satisfy Articles 9-49 depending on the system's complexity and the client's existing governance maturity — and a consultant who cannot give a client that order of magnitude up front is not ready to scope an AI-enabled engagement.
