Running an AI Use-Case Discovery Workshop for SAP Clients

Running an AI Use-Case Discovery Workshop for SAP Clients — Analytics Legends section illustration for the SAP Analytics knowledge base (concepts, studies, Academy)

As of 2026-09-25

For SAP AI consultants who facilitate the room where AI use cases are born, before they are triaged (M375) or governed at scale (M376). Explains SAP AppHaus's published Business AI Explore Workshop: when to run it versus a Discover or Scoping workshop; its format (60-90 minute intro plus one day or two half-days, 3-10 participants across business, IT, sponsor and AI expert roles); its seven-step agenda from Getting Started through Next Steps; the Use Case Brief's three views (business, technical, ethical) and why the ethical view is the same question M375 asks in delivery; the Value Heatmap and how to treat an ethical-risk flag as a complexity factor; closing the loop into a CoE's use-case registry; and SAP's Joule Agent Discovery Workshop, its narrower agentic-AI focus and provenance. Closes with SAP-specific facilitation pitfalls, three exercises and a self-assessment.

What you will learn

  • Choose the correct workshop format (Explore, Discover, Scoping) for a given client moment, and explain why running the wrong one wastes the room
  • Facilitate the seven-step Business AI Explore Workshop agenda, from getting started through prioritised next steps
  • Produce a complete Use Case Brief covering business, technical and ethical views together, not sequentially
  • Connect the ethical view of a Use Case Brief directly to the M375 red-line/high-risk/standard triage
  • Position use cases on a Value Heatmap that correctly treats an ethical-risk flag as a complexity factor, not an afterthought
  • Identify when to run SAP's Joule Agent Discovery Workshop instead of the general Business AI Explore Workshop

Module overview

Who this is for. You can triage a single use case for ethics and privacy risk (M375) and you know what a governed AI CoE needs to receive from the business (M376). This module is about the room where those use cases are born: a structured, facilitated workshop that turns "we should probably do something with AI" into named, prioritised, briefed use cases a CoE can register. It follows SAP AppHaus's own published Business AI Explore Workshop methodology and SAP's Joule Agent Discovery Workshop learning journey — not a generic design-thinking session with an SAP logo added.

Prerequisites

  • M375 — SAP AI Ethics and Data Privacy in Delivery
  • Basic facilitation experience (running or co-running a workshop of 5-15 people) is helpful but not required
  • Optional: familiarity with M376's use-case registry concept, to understand where the workshop's output goes next

Outcomes

  • Select and justify the right workshop type (Explore, Discover, Scoping) for a given client request.
  • Facilitate a discovery workshop's seven steps with correct timing and clear deliverables at each step.
  • Produce a Use Case Brief whose ethical view can be directly triaged using M375's criteria.
  • Build a Value Heatmap and a step-7 action plan that correctly hands off prioritised use cases to a CoE registry.
