SAP BTP in 2026: Global Accounts, Subaccounts, Environments and the Commercial Model

SAP BTP organises everything you consume in one tree: a global account (your contract), optional directories, and subaccounts bound to one region and provider. Entitlements and quotas decide which service plans each subaccount may use, and the commercial model (CPEA, BTPEA, Pay-As-You-Go or subscription) decides who pays. You learn to cut a dev/test/prod layout, assign entitlements from the cockpit, the btp CLI and Terraform, stay on free-tier plans, and read cloud-credit consumption. The AI angle: SAP AI Core and SAP HANA Cloud are gated by entitlements in a subaccount.

Concept overview: SAP BTP in 2026
SAP BTP is the technical layer on which SAP runs its platform services (databases, AI services, integration, runtimes) and on which customers and partners build extensions. Everything you consume there is organised by one object, the global account, which is the realization of your SAP contract. The SAP Developer tutorial group on enterprise accounts describes it as "region- and environment-independent": it holds the members, the entitlements and the subaccounts, and it is either an enterprise or a trial type (Get Started with SAP BTP Enterprise Accounts).

- A Pay-As-You-Go global account with free tier, or a BTP trial account
- A terminal with the btp CLI installed (global account on feature set B)
