What is SAP SuccessFactors People Analytics?

People Analytics data stays siloed in SuccessFactors by default — the choice between the SAC live-data connector and the Datasphere connector decides whether HR reporting stays HR-only or unlocks cross-domain analytics.

What it is

SuccessFactors People Analytics is the HR-side analytic surface inside SAP SuccessFactors — the platform from which CHROs and HR business partners answer workforce questions: headcount trends, attrition risk, compensation equity, diversity-and-inclusion metrics, talent pipeline depth, time-to-fill, and learning completion rates. For SAP analytics consultants, People Analytics matters because HR is increasingly an analytics buyer alongside Finance and Procurement, and integrating People Analytics with the rest of the SAP estate is consultant work that customers consistently struggle to do themselves.

The three components. Workforce Analytics delivers pre-built dashboards over the SuccessFactors data model covering employee records, organisational structure, compensation, learning, performance, and recruiting — the out-of-the-box surface that covers 80 % of standard CHRO reporting needs. Workforce Planning is the strategic and tactical layer that combines current workforce data with forecast headcount, attrition projections, and skill-gap analysis; it is the component that moves HR from reporting to decision-support. Story Reports is the SuccessFactors-side SAC Story embedding, letting HR business partners build ad-hoc analytics without leaving the SuccessFactors UI — the adoption lever that removes the need for a separate SAC licence for pure-HR users.

Why it matters

  • Workforce Analytics covers 80% of standard CHRO reporting needs out of the box, but Workforce Planning is what moves HR from reporting to decision support.
  • Story Reports embeds SAC directly in the SuccessFactors UI, removing the need for a separate SAC licence for pure-HR users.
  • The Datasphere connector runs at next-day latency but is the only path to cross-domain questions like HR x Finance compensation benchmarking.

Key points

  • Three components — Workforce Analytics (out-of-the-box dashboards), Workforce Planning (strategic/tactical headcount + attrition + skill-gap), Story Reports (SAC Story embedding in SuccessFactors).
  • Three integration paths — SAC live-data connector (real-time, SuccessFactors-shaped), Datasphere connector (next-day, cross-domain), BDC SuccessFactors content packages (strategic 2026).
  • GDPR sensitivity — HR data is Art. 9 special-category; elevated governance (lawful basis, works council consultation in DACH/FR, formal DPIA) before any analytics deployment.
  • Cross-domain use cases — HR × Finance (compensation analysis), HR × Sales (account-rep productivity), HR × Supply-Chain (workforce capacity for production).
  • Anti-pattern — building HR analytics without HR Business Partner buy-in; HR data politics derails projects faster than tech problems.
  • SAP SuccessFactors People Analytics is mastered only when it changes a named buyer decision.
  • Start with the semantic contract and control model before demonstrating the tool.
  • Use current SAP, analyst, study, KG, and news signals as evidence, not decoration.
  • Separate verified facts from directional trends and modeled assumptions.
  • Define owner, metric, threshold, support path, and rollback before scaling.

Terms used on this page

People Analytics
The HR-side analytics discipline — using workforce data to answer questions about headcount, attrition, compensation, diversity, talent pipeline, and learning effectiveness; the analytic side of HR alongside payroll, recruiting, and learning administration.
Workforce Planning
The strategic and tactical exercise of projecting future headcount needs by role, geography, and time horizon, accounting for attrition, retirement, hiring pipeline, and business growth; SuccessFactors' Workforce Planning module is the planning surface for this.
GDPR Art. 9 special-category data
Personal data revealing racial origin, political opinions, religious beliefs, trade union membership, health, sex life, or sexual orientation, plus genetic and biometric data; processing requires an Art. 9(2) specific basis beyond the Art. 6 lawful basis, and HR analytics typically touches this category.
Works council consultation
The legally-mandated process of consulting employee representatives before deploying HR systems that monitor workforce data; required under French Code du Travail Art. L2312-26 and German Betriebsverfassungsgesetz §87; missing this step blocks the project.
Decision owner
The accountable person who accepts the trade-off and funds the next action.
Semantic contract
The shared definition of business terms, metrics, entities, and access rules used by tools and teams.
Control plane
The layer that applies policy, access, lineage, monitoring, and escalation across the operating model.
Evidence grade
A label that separates verified fact, directional signal, modeled assumption, and field observation.
