SAP S/4HANA in 2026 — Editions, Release Cycle and Clean Core

SAP S/4HANA is delivered in 2026 as Public Edition (multi-tenant, two releases a year), Private Edition (single tenant under RISE with SAP) or on-premise. This module teaches you to read the official release and maintenance sources, to date the ECC horizon (mainstream maintenance to end 2027, optional extended maintenance to end 2030), to use clean core as the criterion that ranks the editions, and to fill an edition decision sheet. It then shows where analytics and AI work meets each edition: CDS views, Datasphere and Business Data Cloud, Joule. Every date is sourced and every planned item is labelled as planned.

Concept overview
In October 2026 "SAP S/4HANA" is one product family delivered in three ways: SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition (multi-tenant SaaS, sold with GROW with SAP), SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition (a single-tenant bundle sold with RISE with SAP) and SAP S/4HANA on-premise that you run yourself. The choice is not cosmetic: it fixes who controls the release date, which extensibility tools you may use and which data-extraction path your analytics team inherits.
