Financial Planning on S/4HANA Data — SAC Planning, Seamless Planning with Datasphere and Live Actuals

Financial Planning on S/4HANA Data — SAC Planning, Seamless Planning with Datasphere and Live Actuals — Analytics Legends section illustration for the SAP Analytics knowledge base (concepts, studies, Academy)

As of 2026-10-31

Finance planning on S/4HANA is a data-flow problem before it is a modelling problem. This module follows the actuals from the universal journal table ACDOCA through an OData import connection into an SAP Analytics Cloud planning model, explains public and private versions, data actions and multi actions, and shows what Seamless Planning with SAP Datasphere changes: the model becomes a read-only fact object with hard prerequisites. You run a lab that reproduces plan versus actual by cost centre with a factor of 1.05, then decide which option fits a given landscape and where AI forecasting and Joule can safely sit on top.

What you will learn

  • Trace actuals from ACDOCA to an SAC planning model through an OData import connection
  • Create a plan version and a data action that writes actuals times 1.05 into it
  • Explain public versus private versions and the publish behaviour
  • State the prerequisites and constraints of a Seamless Planning model
  • Choose between import, Seamless Planning and S/4HANA write-back for a landscape

Concept overview

Financial planning on S/4HANA data means one thing in practice: the actuals come from the S/4HANA universal journal, the plan is written in a planning model, and the two meet in a version-aware comparison that finance can sign off. In 2026 the planning front end is SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC), the data foundation is either a direct import from S/4HANA or SAP Datasphere, and the integration pattern that joins SAC planning models with Datasphere is called Seamless Planning (see M020, concept C020). The product page for the front end is SAP Analytics Cloud; the planning model itself is described in the SAC planning models concept page (concept C019, base module M019).

What you decide on a project is narrow. Which S/4HANA objects feed the actuals, in which direction plan data flows back, where the planning model physically lives, and which versions exist. The universal journal makes the first decision easier because line items, cost centres and profit centres sit in one table, ACDOCA, as the SAP Learning unit on the universal journal explains.

Prerequisites

  • SAC planning basics — see M019
  • Datasphere spaces — see M001 (for the Seamless Planning chapter)
  • Knowledge of the S/4HANA finance data model (cost centre, account)

Outcomes

  • Reproduce the lab: actual total 250,000, plan total 262,500, variance 12,500
  • Name the three export APIs and why export cadence matters
  • Explain why planning cannot rest on a live S/4HANA connection
  • List four Seamless Planning prerequisites
  • Write a one-page design with connection, versions, data action and write-back rule
