SAP Integration Suite — Cloud Integration: Integration Flows, Adapters, Message Processing and Monitoring

SAP Integration Suite — Cloud Integration: Integration Flows, Adapters, Message Processing and Monitoring — Analytics Legends section illustration for the SAP Analytics knowledge base (concepts, studies, Academy)

As of 2026-10-31

Cloud Integration is the runtime where SAP Integration Suite executes integration flows: a sender adapter receives a message, steps modify, route and map it, and receiver adapters deliver it. This module covers tenant activation on a trial, packages and artefacts, the message model of headers and exchange properties, the main steps, inbound security with the ESBMessaging.send role, the keystore, exception subprocesses and retry, and the Monitor Message Processing statuses. You build an HTTPS iFlow with a Content Modifier and a Router, call it with a token and read three log entries. Then you place the pattern under analytics feeds and AI agent tool calls.

What you will learn

  • Activate Cloud Integration in a trial Integration Suite tenant and open the Design and Monitor areas
  • Build an iFlow with an HTTPS sender, a Content Modifier and a Router with a default route
  • Call the deployed endpoint with an OAuth token and read the three resulting message processing logs
  • Add an exception subprocess and choose the end event that gives the status you want
  • Register keystore aliases with expiry dates and name the role a caller needs

Concept overview

Cloud Integration is the capability of SAP Integration Suite that runs integration flows (iFlows) on SAP BTP: a message arrives through a sender adapter, passes through a chain of steps (modify, route, map, call, script) and leaves through one or more receiver adapters. It is the successor of SAP Cloud Platform Integration (CPI), and the old name is still what most colleagues and tickets say. Everything you build is an artefact in a package in the tenant, and everything that runs is observable as a message processing log. The SAP Help entry point is Cloud Integration on SAP Help, and the capability list is maintained in the Feature Scope Description for SAP Integration Suite, dated 2026-08-13 in the version read for this module.

A naming note for 2026. At SAP Sapphire in May 2026 SAP announced the SAP Business AI Platform, which unifies SAP BTP, SAP Business Data Cloud and SAP Business AI (SAP News, May 2026). Existing BTP services keep their names and contracts; SAP Help still documents Cloud Integration under SAP Integration Suite on SAP BTP, so this module keeps "SAP BTP" for the technical layer (subaccounts, service instances, role collections).

Prerequisites

  • An SAP BTP trial account — see M418
  • Basic knowledge of HTTP, XML and XPath
  • A tool to call HTTPS endpoints (curl or Postman)

Outcomes

  • Explain the difference between a header and an exchange property and choose correctly for a routing key
  • Reproduce the lab: calls 1 and 2 return the expected bodies and the monitor shows 2 Completed and 1 Escalated entry
  • Write a Router condition in Camel Simple syntax with a default route
  • Distinguish the statuses Completed, Retry, Escalated and Failed and say what each demands from operations
  • Name the five recurring causes of a failing Cloud Integration call
