Sales and Distribution in SAP S/4HANA: Order-to-Cash, Pricing, Delivery and Billing

Sales and Distribution in SAP S/4HANA: Order-to-Cash, Pricing, Delivery and Billing — Analytics Legends section illustration for the SAP Analytics knowledge base (concepts, studies, Academy)

As of 2026-10-31

Sales and Distribution is the order-to-cash chain of SAP S/4HANA: sales order, availability check, pricing, outbound delivery, goods issue, billing document and the revenue posting in the Universal Journal table ACDOCA. This module explains the document flow, the item category and schedule line logic, the condition technique behind every net price, partner functions on the Business Partner and SAP Credit Management. You reproduce a lab order with three condition types, read the resulting accounting document, and learn which CDS views and APIs feed Datasphere, Embedded Analytics and AI agents, including the traps that distort revenue figures.

What you will learn

  • Trace a sales order through delivery, goods issue and billing in the Document Flow of a test system.
  • Recompute the net value of an order item from PR00, K007 and KF00 and compare it with the Conditions tab.
  • Explain which input values determine the item category and why an availability check confirms a quantity or not.
  • Read the accounting document created by a billing document and identify the ACDOCA revenue lines.
  • Design a billing-item data product for Datasphere with the right grain and a monthly reconciliation to ACDOCA.

Concept overview

Sales and Distribution (SD) is the order-to-cash backbone of SAP S/4HANA: a customer order is captured, its availability is checked, a price is determined, goods leave the warehouse, an invoice is issued and the revenue lands in the general ledger. The whole chain is one linked set of documents, and the link is the document flow that SAP documents under Process Flow for Sales Orders. For an analytics or AI consultant, SD is where the most-asked business questions start: revenue by customer, open order backlog, delivery delay, price realisation, credit exposure.

What you can do after this module, using the Document Flow from VBAK down to ACDOCA: read a sales order and explain which item category, schedule line and availability check produced each line; recompute a net price from a pricing procedure with three condition types; follow a billing document into the accounting document; and choose the right CDS view or API to feed Datasphere or an AI agent.

Prerequisites

  • Basic knowledge of the S/4HANA data model (see M413) and of CDS views (concept C032).
  • Familiarity with the Fiori launchpad and with document display in a test system.
  • Access to a sandbox where you may post documents (Fully-Activated Appliance or a cloud test tenant).

Outcomes

  • You can reproduce a net order value of 1,355.00 EUR from the lab pricing data.
  • You can state which document creates stock movement and which creates revenue.
  • You can name the four objects of the condition technique and their order of use.
  • You can list three reasons why a BI revenue figure differs from the ledger.
  • You can choose between a live API call and a replicated CDS view for a given consumer.
