SAP Integration Suite — API Management, Open Connectors and Integration Advisor
As of 2026-10-31
API Management in SAP Integration Suite puts a governed door in front of a backend: an API proxy, policies such as Spike Arrest, Quota and Verify API Key, products and applications with their own keys, and API analytics. This module explains the objects and their order, covers Open Connectors (third-party connectors, with an honest lifecycle note) and Integration Advisor (type systems, message and mapping guidelines for B2B), and shows how to find released APIs on the SAP Business Accelerator Hub. A lab builds a proxy, protects it and reads the result. It ends with the analytics and agent angle.
What you will learn
- Create an API proxy on an API provider and deploy it
- Attach Verify API Key and Spike Arrest to the ProxyEndpoint PreFlow in the right order
- Bundle a proxy into a product and subscribe an application to obtain an app key
- Locate a released S/4HANA OData API on the SAP Business Accelerator Hub
- Choose between a direct call, an API Management proxy, Open Connectors and Integration Advisor for a given consumer
Concept overview
Every analytics or AI consumer that reads SAP data over HTTP eventually needs the same three things: a stable address, a control on who may call it and how often, and a record of who called. In SAP Integration Suite the capability that provides them is API Management. It puts an API proxy in front of a backend (S/4HANA OData, a CAP service, an integration flow), applies policies to each request, bundles proxies into products, lets developers subscribe through an application that receives an app key, and records the traffic in API analytics. SAP Help states that API Management is now exclusively available as a capability within SAP Integration Suite, so standalone subscriptions are no longer offered (SAP Help — Classic API Management). The documentation entry point is SAP Help — API Management.
Prerequisites
- An SAP Integration Suite trial or free-tier tenant with API Management activated
- Basic HTTP and OData knowledge (GET, headers, $metadata)
- Module M430 (Cloud Integration) is helpful, M417 (Clean Core) for the released-API principle
Outcomes
- Explain the roles of API provider, API proxy, product and application
- Configure a PreFlow with Verify API Key then Spike Arrest and predict the response of each test call
- Read API analytics to tell a rejected call from a backend error
- State the lifecycle status of Open Connectors using only SAP statements and name its dependency risk
- Describe the chain type system, message implementation guideline, mapping guideline
