Clean Core Analytics
As of 2026-08-16
Clean Core compliance is now contractually enforced on RISE with SAP deployments. Consultants who cannot classify extensions — distinguishing in-app extensions, BTP side-car patterns, stable CDS extension views, and non-compliant Z-table/SAPI extractors — create regression crises at every S/4 upgrade. The maturity scan (CCMIG / ATC) takes 1–2 days on a typical scope; the remediation design it enables saves months of emergency rework. Three failure modes account for > 85 % of Clean Core analytics incidents: CDS views on internal tables, Z-tables beneath Replication Flows, and SAPI extractors masquerading as a clean bridge.
What you will learn
- Classify all existing analytics-related custom code on an S/4 engagement using the Clean Core maturity scan (CCMIG / ATC rules) — distinguishing in-app extensions, BTP side-car patterns, stable CDS extensions, and non-compliant Z-table/SAPI extractors
- Apply the Clean Core analytics extension ladder to design upgrade-safe custom analytics objects: custom fields via the Custom Fields & Logic app, CDS extension views on released VDM interfaces, and BTP side-car patterns for complex logic
- Diagnose and remediate the three principal Clean Core failure modes — CDS views on internal tables, Z-tables beneath Replication Flows, and legacy SAPI extractors — producing a remediation brief with effort estimate and compliance risk
- Produce a Clean Core compliance assessment for an analytics extraction scope: for each extractor, classify compliance level, identify the refactoring path, and estimate the upgrade-risk cost of non-remediation
Clean Core is SAP's mandate for S/4HANA Cloud and, increasingly, the practical prerequisite for any Datasphere or BDC deployment that expects to receive continuous innovation updates without a regression crisis every release cycle. Understanding what Clean Core means precisely — and enforcing it at the analytics layer specifically, not just in the transactional application — is now a first-class skill on every S/4 migration engagement, and it is a skill that shows up directly in whether a client's analytics platform survives its next upgrade intact.
