Group Reporting and Financial Consolidation — Data Collection, Eliminations and Reporting in SAP S/4HANA
As of 2026-10-31
Group Reporting is the consolidation engine inside SAP S/4HANA: data collection per consolidation unit, currency translation, intercompany and investment eliminations, and consolidated reporting on the table ACDOCU. This module teaches the model (units, groups, versions, FS items, posting levels), the three ways to collect data, the two elimination options and the translation keys. A lab consolidates a three-unit group with figures you can reproduce, then positions Group Reporting against BPC and SAC and shows how consolidated data feeds Datasphere, SAC and role-governed AI such as Joule.
What you will learn
- Define a three-unit consolidation group with ownership and a group currency
- Load one unit from the Universal Journal and two units from a CSV through Import Reported Data
- Run currency translation and read the translation key and CTA in the log
- Run intercompany balance sheet, revenue and cost, and investment eliminations in the Consolidation Monitor
- Read the consolidated balance in Group Data Analysis by posting level
Concept overview
Group Reporting is SAP's consolidation engine inside SAP S/4HANA: it takes the financial statements of legal entities, translates them into a group currency, eliminates what the group does to itself (intercompany balances, intercompany revenue and cost, the parent's investment in a subsidiary) and produces the consolidated balance sheet, income statement and cash flow. SAP Learning describes it as one process of six steps: data collection, data preparation, intercompany, investment eliminations, reporting and balance carryforward (Describing Consolidation Processes, SAP Learning). SAP material also says "SAP S/4HANA Cloud for group reporting" and "SAP S/4HANA Finance for group reporting"; cloud and on-premise share the model.
What sets it apart is where the data lives: consolidation runs in the operational system, with no export to a separate cube. Source postings come from ACDOCA (the Universal Journal, see M423) and group data sits in ACDOCU.
Prerequisites
- Finance basics: balance sheet, income statement, intercompany transactions
- Awareness of the Universal Journal ACDOCA — see M423
- Access to a system with Group Reporting configured (SAP Learning exercise system or client sandbox) or a spreadsheet for the arithmetic
Outcomes
- Reproduce the lab: consolidated assets 2,400, equity 1,940, net income 400 (k EUR)
- Explain the six process steps and name the monitor that runs each
- Choose between rule-based elimination and elimination with ICMR and justify it
- Name the four upload parameters that destroy or distort data: UPDATEMODE, PERIODICAL, NSEP, DOCTY
- Compute a CTA from average and closing rates (exercise: -1)
- Position Group Reporting against BPC and state which dates to verify
