Business AI Governance Through the Contract: Reading SAP's AI Terms and Trust Documents

Business AI Governance Through the Contract: Reading SAP's AI Terms and Trust Documents — Analytics Legends section illustration for the SAP Analytics knowledge base (concepts, studies, Academy)

As of 2026-11-05

Before a customer activates Joule or the Generative AI Hub, its data protection officer and procurement lead ask whether data trains models, who else touches it, where it is processed and which document says so. This module teaches how to answer from SAP's public pages without overclaiming: the Trust Center index of contract documents, the Responsible AI statements on training and third-party models, the ISO/IEC 42001 scope, the SAP AI Core region and model matrices, and the masking, filtering and recording controls the customer configures. It marks plainly which documents are not public or were not retrievable. You build a verification register and answer five DPO questions. This is not legal advice; the signed agreement and the customer's counsel decide.

What you will learn

  • Separate contract documents, public statements and product documentation when answering a DPO's questions
  • Name the Trust Center documents a customer must obtain before activating Joule or the Generative AI Hub and say which are not public
  • Quote exactly what SAP's Responsible AI page says about training, third-party models, deletion and ISO/IEC 42001 scope
  • Read the region and model matrices for Yes and Yes* and record the access type of each planned model
  • Produce a verification register with owner, version read and status for each row, and state that it is not legal advice

Concept overview

A customer's data protection officer and procurement lead will ask the same four questions before anyone switches on Joule or the Generative AI Hub: is our data used to train models, who else touches it, where is it processed, and which document says so? A consultant who answers from marketing slides loses the room. A consultant who knows which public SAP page says what, which statement belongs to the contract and which does not, and which documents are not public, wins it. This module teaches that reading skill. The index of those documents is the SAP Trust Center.

Prerequisites

  • Access to the customer's order documents or a named contract owner who can open them
  • Basic knowledge of GDPR roles: controller and processor
  • Neighbour modules M050, M375, M376 and M058 for the legal, ethics and operating-model halves

Outcomes

  • Explain why a FAQ sentence is not a contract clause and how to ask SAP for the binding document
  • Reproduce the lab: a register of at least 12 rows with document, version or not retrieved, owner and status
  • Distinguish Yes from Yes* in the model availability matrix and the consequence for in-region processing
  • State what data masking does and does not cover and why it is tested on the customer's own data
  • List the three controls a customer configures: masking, content filtering and inference recording
