What is Autonomous Enterprise?

The Autonomous Enterprise is SAP's 2026 positioning thesis: the idea that, by 2030, a critical mass of repeatable business decisions, such as invoice matching, demand sensing, bid analysis, and cash application, will be executed by AI agents without human initiation, with humans governing the guardrails rather than performing the individual steps. SAP CEO Christian Klein framed it at Sapphire Orlando 2026 as the next industrial paradigm: every enterprise process has a human-run variant and an AI-run variant, and the enterprise that migrates its commodity decisions to the AI-run variant at scale recaptures human bandwidth for judgment-intensive work instead.
