Announced at Sapphire 2026, SAP Business AI Platform unifies SAP BTP, SAP Business Data Cloud and AI foundation services into one governed environment organised in three pillars — Build (Joule Studio, Integration Suite), Contextualize & Reason (Knowledge Graph, BDC, Generative AI Hub, SAP models) and Govern (AI Agent Hub, Joule Studio Runtime).

What it is

SAP Business AI Platform is the foundation layer of SAP's Autonomous Enterprise, introduced at SAP Sapphire in May 2026. SAP's press release describes it as a new foundation that "unifies SAP Business Technology Platform, SAP Business Data Cloud and SAP Business AI into a single, governed environment". SAP's learning content is more granular: the platform brings together SAP BTP, AI Foundation, SAP BDC, SAP HANA Cloud and some capabilities of the Business Transformation Management portfolio (SAP LeanIX, SAP Signavio). It is the environment on which SAP builds its own Joule Assistants and Agents, on which partners build and distribute agents, and on which customers compose, extend, integrate and govern their own.

It is best read as an evolution and rebranding of SAP BTP plus BDC plus the AI services, not as a new runtime to install. Existing BTP services keep their names and contracts; what is new is the packaging, the agent-centric tooling (Joule Studio 2.0, AI Agent Hub) and the commercial model for custom-built AI.

Why it matters

The platform is a regrouping of BTP, BDC, HANA Cloud and AI services under one name — scoping it correctly avoids buying twice and tells a client which existing contracts already cover it.
Govern is a named pillar with concrete tools (AI Agent Hub, Joule Studio Runtime, Integration Suite API governance) — a proposal without them leaves the CISO and CFO without the controls they will ask for.
SAP's April 2026 API Access Policy and its 2026 enforcement plan constrain how external agents may read SAP data, which pushes agent designs toward the platform's governed connectivity.
