What is Joule across spend and external workforce?

Joule has three different footprints in spend and workforce products: Concur has the most documented agents (Booking, Meeting Planning, Expense Automation) with Joule Premium and Early Adopter Care labels, Fieldglass is assistant-led and needs the SAP Joule SKU, and Business Network has only an announced Supplier Onboarding Agent. Status, entitlement and differences from Ariba (C358) as of 4 October 2026.

Three products, one assistant, three footprints

Joule is the same assistant in SAP Concur, SAP Fieldglass and SAP Business Network, but the three products give it very different jobs. Concur is employee-facing travel and expense. Fieldglass is buyer-side management of contingent workers and services procurement. Business Network is the cross-company layer where buyers and suppliers meet. SAP's own "Joule Capabilities" document (version 1.0.0, 28 September 2026) has a full chapter on Concur and one on Fieldglass, and none on Business Network: a first hint about where the maturity sits. This card states what is documented or announced, with the status SAP gives it, as of 4 October 2026, and it deliberately stays out of Ariba, which C358 covers.

SAP Concur: the most agentic of the three

The Concur chapter separates agentic use cases from transactional ones.

Why it matters

  • Joule has three different footprints across Concur, Fieldglass and Business Network: SAP's own capabilities document has chapters for Concur and Fieldglass and none for Business Network, so maturity is uneven.
  • Status labels differ by source (for example Concur's Expense Automation Agent: Early Adopter Care in release highlights, available to Joule Premium in the September 2026 capabilities document); the label must be confirmed per tenant.
  • Entitlement differs by product (SAP Joule SKU for Fieldglass, Joule Premium for some Concur agents, a free Joule Agent Runtime window to 31 December 2026 for Ariba and Fieldglass only), which changes the commercial conversation.

Key points

  • Concur: Booking Agent (new Concur Travel experience only), Meeting Planning Agent (Joule Premium), Expense Automation Agent (Joule Premium; Early Adopter Care in 2026 release material), Expense Report Validation Agent (GA, Q1 2026).
  • Fieldglass: conversational assistant (work items, approvals, close worker, template and report recommendations, quarterly trends); requires the SAP Joule SKU; Services Procurement Agent for gate-pass time capture reported as planned for June 2026.
  • Business Network: a Supplier Onboarding Agent is announced with the Q2 2026 supply-chain agents; no release highlights for Q1 or Q2 2026 list Business Network features and the capabilities document has no chapter.
  • Versus Ariba (C358): Ariba agents (Intake Management, Contracts) need next-generation Ariba (available since March 2026) and share a free Joule Agent Runtime window to 31 December 2026 with Fieldglass; Concur has no such window stated.
  • Concur transactional use cases need the Expense User role; Joule edits only fields configured as editable, and unfilled required fields can make an action fail, sending the user back to Concur.
  • Entitlement differs: SAP Joule SKU for Fieldglass, Base for Concur transactional use cases, Joule Premium for Expense Automation and Meeting Planning, AI Units for non-package transactional features; the Concur Expense Report Validation Agent is GA (Q1 2026).
