SAP Pay — payment execution embedded in SAP Cloud ERP
As of 2026-10-08
What is SAP Pay?
SAP Pay, announced at SAP Connect on 6 October 2026 and powered by the SAP subsidiary Tereina, executes a payment when an invoice is approved in SAP Cloud ERP and reconciles it against the invoice or purchase order. It is generally available in the United States and the United Kingdom. This card separates what is available from product-page claims and from the agentic payments SAP says will come, and names the finance controls and analytics data it creates.
What SAP announced on 6 October 2026
At SAP Connect in Las Vegas (5-7 October 2026), SAP announced that it is entering the payments market with SAP Pay, a payment service embedded in SAP Cloud ERP. SAP Pay is powered by Tereina, which SAP's innovation news guide describes as a regulated payment-service provider founded in April 2026 as a wholly owned SAP subsidiary. The guide states the mechanism in one sentence: when an invoice is approved in an SAP Cloud ERP application, SAP Pay executes the payment and reconciles it against the corresponding invoice or purchase order. It states the availability just as plainly: SAP Pay is generally available now in the United States and the United Kingdom. Jan Gilg announced it on the main keynote stage, and the Finance Connect keynote gave it four chapters, including a customer story.
This card separates three layers that a client conversation will blur: what is generally available (execution and reconciliation inside SAP Cloud ERP, in two countries), what is described as a product capability on SAP's product page (rails, corridors, screening), and what is explicitly future (AI agents through Joule that "will soon" trigger and execute payments).
Why it matters
- SAP Pay moves payment execution from the bank file to the ERP approval, so the invoice-approval workflow becomes the control that releases money; segregation of duties has to be re-checked there.
- Availability is stated for the United States and the United Kingdom only; a global rollout plan built on the announcement would be ahead of the evidence.
- Every executed payment creates data (rail, fee, FX, settlement time, reconciliation status) that analytics teams have never had inside SAP, but SAP has not documented how it is exposed.
