CDS Views & ODP
As of 2026-08-16
CDS views and ODP are the extraction backbone of every S/4-to-Datasphere migration. Always extract from C-suffix interface views (not Q consumption views). Verify delta capability — FULL-only on high-volume extractors destroys source-system performance. Set authority annotations to prevent data-bypass across company codes. Manage ODP subscriber lifecycle via ODQMON or Datasphere deregistration to avoid delta-queue memory leaks. These five failure modes are the ones that repeatedly derail BW/S/4-to-Datasphere projects.
What you will learn
- Design and annotate a custom CDS interface view for ODP-based Datasphere extraction, including delta mode selection (FULL / AIMD / FODS) and the mandatory analytics annotations
- Diagnose and resolve the five principal CDS/ODP failure modes — Q-view extraction errors, FULL-only delta performance incidents, authorisation bypass, missing annotation defaults, and ODP subscriber orphaning — using ODQMON and Datasphere monitoring
- Apply the Clean Core CDS view typing convention (C/Q/R suffix) to select the correct view layer for extraction versus UI consumption on a mixed S/4 + Datasphere engagement
- Produce a CDS extractor technical specification that includes delta capability assessment, authority annotation review, and ODP subscriber lifecycle management — the artefact required before a Replication Flow is commissioned
CDS views and ODP are the extraction backbone of every SAP analytics migration, and misunderstanding which to use, and when, is responsible for the majority of analytics data-freshness incidents on BW-to-Datasphere and S/4-to-Datasphere projects. This module treats them as a paired system, because that is how they behave in practice: one defines what the data looks like, the other defines how it moves.
CDS views are semantic models; ODP is the extraction protocol
