Cash Management and Liquidity Forecasting in SAP S/4HANA — Bank Accounts, Cash Position and Forecast
As of 2026-10-31
A treasurer asks two questions every morning: what do we hold today and what will we hold in three weeks. This module shows how SAP S/4HANA Cash Management answers both from the Universal Journal and the One Exposure from Operations hub: bank accounts, bank statement import and the Bank Statement Monitor, the Cash Position app, liquidity items, planning levels and memo records, and the Cash Flow Analyzer reports. You run a lab with example data that ends in a computed liquidity gap of 350,000 EUR, then learn how the same data feeds Datasphere, SAC Planning and Joule without leaving the governed apps.
What you will learn
- Check a bank account and a posted statement with Manage Bank Accounts and the Bank Statement Monitor
- Read the Cash Position app by bank, company and currency
- Create memo records with a planning level whose source symbol is BNK
- Run Cash Flow Analyzer with the Liquidity Forecast report and compute the gap against a minimum balance
- Decide basic or full scope and write the memo-record policy
Concept overview
Cash Management in SAP S/4HANA answers two questions for the treasurer and the controller: how much cash do we hold today, per bank account, company code and currency, and how much will we hold in the next days and weeks? In SAP S/4HANA it is built on the Universal Journal: posted items in ACDOCA and open items from receivables, payables, purchasing and sales are read live, so there is no separate warehouse to load overnight. The functional entry point is Cash and Liquidity Management in the on-premise documentation and Cash Operations in SAP S/4HANA Cloud.
Two scope levels exist on premise. Basic cash management is activated with the value Basic Scope in the Customizing activity Define Basic Settings and covers bank accounts, bank statements and the cash position. Full cash management needs the business function FIN_FSCM_CLM and adds, among others, payment approvers and overdraft limits for bank accounts; the business function page tells you to check licence terms with your SAP account executive before you switch it on. Treat that as a commercial gate, not a technical one.
Prerequisites
- Access to an SAP S/4HANA sandbox with finance authorisations (for example the SAP Fully-Activated Appliance on SAP Cloud Appliance Library)
- Basic knowledge of the General Ledger and the Universal Journal (see M423)
- Notions of accounts receivable and payable open items (see M425)
Outcomes
- Explain the difference between cash position and liquidity forecast in two sentences
- Reproduce the lab: minimum balance 650,000 EUR on day +20 and a gap of 350,000 EUR
- Name the three data-source groups feeding the One Exposure from Operations hub
- Avoid double counting between AR/AP items and memo records
- Choose the route from CDS views to Datasphere for cash data
